I am the Vocational Horticulture Instructor at a Jail in Florida. I work for the School Districts of Hillsborough County, and I work with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. We have a 6.5 acre plot of land behind the Falkenburg Road Jail, in Tampa, Frorida. It is fenced in and about half of it is presently usable, the rest is swamped during the rainy season. We have 2 commercial, gutter connected greenhouses, each 30 by 90 feet 5400 square feet in greenhouse space. We have a 30 by 90 foot shade house as well, and it is connected to the two greenhouses by gutter. We have a classroom on site with A/C and Heat, two offices, and two bathrooms. We have two large sheds that house a variety of hand and gas powered tools. We grow over 400 different species of plants at any given time, including 13 species of peppers and hundreds of varieties within those species. We have quarterly sales to boost revenue for soil, fertilizer, so on and so forth. We are always in need. Soil is pretty expensive. I teach 19 to 22 minimum security inmates (called a Trusty) all the different facets of horticulture. From greenhouse and nursery production to landscaping, landscape maintenance, pruning, insects, plant needs, plant diseases, nutrient deficiencies, etc. I am in my 11th year in this position. I was born and raised in Titusville, Florida and moved here specifically for this position in '98. I finished college late (1997) at the University of Florida in Environmental Horticulture (Ornamental Horticulture) and then was offered this job 4 months after. It fit me to a "T" and so here I am in Capsaicin heaven. To contact me write to aboatman at hcso.tampa.fl.us yes I wrote the at in there but just put this @ in between the name and address with no spaces and you will be able to contact me. I do this so I don't get spam.
